The guide was very good, the boat itself was beautiful ..spacious and very clean with great loos! The food was excellent and the transfers to our hotels in Pakbang and Luang Prubang were all included and easy. The river journey was stunning.. we only wished for even more days. We enjoyed the visits to villages and cave of Buddhas .. the only small change I would wish for is an extra 10 minutes at the buddha cave steps were very long and steep meaning only 5 minutes in the cave for us as an older slower couple. Highly recommend staying in Huay Xai the night before as we did ..it is lovely and to avoid stress of early
morning border crossing whichnis outside of Nagi control of course

Hi Senne, you would only lose your deposit if you cancelled less than 72 hours before the activity starts. (To book you need to pay a deposit which is fully refundable up until 72 hours before the start of your tour.) For this particular slow boat tour, you only need to pay the operator the remaining amount on the actual day of the tour, so you would not lose the remaining money by cancelling. It’s important to note that other tours on this platform have different rules regarding when the operator needs to receive the remaining payment. If you need to cancel for any reason, just email or Whatsapp us and we can refund you, no questions asked.

Or do I only lose my deposit?

Hi Eva, so at the luxury accommodation (Le Grande Pak Beng), you would have to get 2 separate rooms for 4 people. Price per room (2 people) is $390 USD so X 2 would be $780 USD. This price includes the cruise and the room. Any more questions just let me know!

Hi there! Thanks for your question. The boat arrives at the pier in Luang Prabang at around 17:00 and you should be at your hotel (depending on the location) by 17:30 – 17:45.

Guide was super. Hotel was extraordinary. Booking was easy. Perfect solution for a family with kids (9&11y). Much more expensive than the regular slowboat but good value for money and very reasonable. Thank you .

It’s slow travel but the scenery is perfect to spend time looking around. Our guide has been great, with answers for a lot of specific knowledge about this part of Asia.

Also, the hotel selected for the mid-journey has been great, with a swimming pool and a nice view for sunset.

I would recommend this tour to family and friends who want to travel in this region.

Hi Lisanne,

1) Standard accommodation will be at either BKC Villa, Monsavanh Guesthouse or Villa Mekong Guesthouse depending on availability. These are basic AC rooms (breakfast included).

2) Premium Accommodation will be at Sanctuary Pak Beng Lodge. These are AC rooms in a premium hotel with swimming pool (breakfast included).

3) Luxury Accommodation will be at Le Grande Pak Beng. An AC room in a premium hotel with swimming pool (breakfast included).

I will ask the hotels and add some photos to the description!

Hi there! Yes, it is very easy. There are also porters to help with luggage, so you don’t need to worry about having a wheeled suitcase.

Hi Martin, there are no electricity outlets on the boat, but you can charge your phone/laptop at the hotel in Pak Beng.

After seeing the comparison in boat, we were extremely happy we chose to upgrade with Nagi of Mekong. Our guide, Tune, was incredible. His English was brilliant, his manner and hospitality was second to none, happy to answer all of our annoying questions too! The facilities on the boat couldn’t be better, comfy seats, lovely prepared food, even the bathroom was lovely. Doing the journey this way was completely invaluable as it allowed us to experience the views in a comfortable way, and to make stops too.

Something that cannot be missed off this review – we would not have boooked using South East Asia Backpacker if it wasn’t for Nicki’s attentive guidance that we received upon enquiry. No question too stupid for her to answer, troubleshooting everything as we needed.

Thank you very much for making the entry into Laos seamless and incredibly enjoyable.

Sam

The boat is great, lots of space, the staff is super friendly, the food is very good. We were on the boat for almost 8 hours each day, but it went by so quick, even our two kids (8 and 13) loved it. I recommend 100%, it’s more expensive than traditional slow boat but very worth it when you compare the expérience… It’s also very easy to communicante with Nikki, she’s lovely and very helpful 😊

Taking it slow, unwinding 2 days floating 330 km into Laos over the Mekong! Sibon, our Laos, well english speaking guide was really super also, Loved the lunches the boat family made, enough choices for everybody, including vegetarians. There was more than enough space, big tables to sit at, a back deck to linger and a small front deck to make the best pictures. Reccomended!
